A few days ago my youngest looked at me and said, “Mama, I want to be just like you.” Although I thought this was quite sweet, I replied with, “Thanks sweetie, but I want you to be you. Not anyone else but yourself.”
Sure, I wouldn’t mind if either of my girls ended up loving food or reading like I do, but ultimately I want them to do things that speak to them. To carve out their own path in life. Make their own mistakes. Accomplish things that I would never have dreamed of doing. To be the best person they can be.
I mean, that’s what all parents hope for, right?
