I had been wanting to try Kaimuki Superette since it opened last year and a couple of weekends ago I finally had the opportunity to experience what everyone has been raving about.
After getting lucky with street parking, we made our way to Kaimuki Superette, which is located on Waialae Avenue (just past 9th Ave). Very unassuming on the outside, but bright and cheery on the inside.
The big thing here for lunch are the sandwiches and veggie sides, so that’s exactly what we got. If you want to just pick up some pickled veggies, locally made cheese, or locally grown pork, they have that available for purchase.
How beautiful is this platter? My faves were the carrots and the eggplant. My husband loved the watermelon.
If pork is on the menu, I will almost always get it. This porchetta sandwich was divine.
My husband got the melt of the day. You really can’t go wrong with a sandwich that has melted cheese in it.
I forgot to take a picture of my daughters’ food but they shared a grilled cheese sandwich, which they both loved. My 6-year-old went bananas over the house made pickles that were served on the side.
My husband thoroughly enjoyed the food.
And so did I.
Of course, we couldn’t leave without getting a sweet treat. This Chocolate Chip Cookie with Kona Sea Salt was worth all of the calories.
If you haven’t gone to Kaimuki Superette, I highly recommend that you make the trip there. The food is affordable and delicious, plus the staff is super friendly. When you go, tell Chef Erik I said hello.
And get the porchetta sandwich.
