Note: I received a copy of Recess Monkey’s upcoming album In Tents for review purposes. I am in no way affiliated with Recess Monkey. All opinions are my own.
Do you have children?
Would you like to listen to some AWESOME music that both they AND you will enjoy?
Well, you should definitely pick up kindie rockers Recess Monkey’s latest album In Tents.
The relatable themes and delightful music of this circus inspired album are both fun and whimsical. From beginning to end, the catchy melodies make you want to just get up and dance. Or in my 3-year-old daughter’s case, jump up and down and spin around in circles.
What I enjoyed most about this album was its use of different styles of music (electronica, ska, funk, indie rock, etc.) and how smart the lyrics are. In the song I Could See (Magically) (about getting glasses) the lines “I was a spectacle for sure. I didn’t just have two eyes, I had the power of four,” are just genius. If you decide to pick up a tangible CD, be sure to check out the CD booklet. Really witty writing and funny photographs.
Even if you don’t have or work with children, I would highly suggest giving In Tents a listen. At times it reminded me of The Aquabats, Jimmy Eat World, and Scott Klopfenstein (formerly of Reel Big Fish). Not bad company if you ask me.
So go on. Pick up a copy. You’ll be glad you did.
Recess Monkey’s In Tents will be released on June 19.
